Being in a funk sucks. Let’s face it, you would rather crawl into bed than deal with anyone or anything. You feel like you have absolutely no energy to do anything or if you do, anything you do is terrible or not worth it. Whether it’s that time of the month, the weather, a bad breakup or just because –we’ve ALL been there. It can honestly take a toll on your well being and get the best of you but it’s SO important to catch yourself before it happens, take a step back to reflect and remind yourself, it’s OKAY.

The older I get the more I often i feel like I get in these moods. Not sure about the reasoning behind it but I know that I’ve also gotten better at snapping out of it. Okay, let’s be honest, I get myself in these moods because I feel like I am on the go 24/7, spreading myself too thin so whenever I am not doing something or decide to take a break, I used to feel guilty and tend to be really hard on myself.  After all, we are our own worst critics. However, I’ve adapted some ways that bring back my confidence to light when I’m not feeling my best. Sometimes we get so caught up in our lives and don’t remember to gratify ourselves with the things that matter and bring us joy. Which inevitably bring us to that stage of ‘funk.’

This topic tend to be a reoccurring topic in my adult life more so than ever before. So trust me when I say, you’re not alone! I’ve decided to share a few of my favorite ways to cope with feeling like your stuck in this unmotivational, moody few days, otherwise know as ‘a funk’. They may or not be for you, but hopefully you can find at least one way or some inspiration to snap you out of that crappy feeling.

  • Turn to those that love and support you
    • Whenever I’m feeling in a funk, a phone call to my mom or siblings will immediately remind me that everything’s all right and I’m just having one of those days. Or leave it to my boyfriend to lift up my confidence if he notices something’s off.
    • Plan a date, get dolled up and go out to your fave restaurant with your significant other and forget about the calories. Plan a girls night out/in with your girlfriends, spend the night in masking with a bottle of wine (if you’re over 21, obvi) & they’ll snap you right out of it.  Don’t be afraid to ask for some love from someone you can count on to listen to you vent.
  • Listen to music, make a mood playlist
    • Music all the way, everyday. I am the biggest music junkie and love to listen to music that just resonates what I’m going through or just makes me feel good. So either create a playlist that makes you really feel deep and just let it all out or put on the your favorite soundtrack and have a dance party. Even better, go take a dance class guaranteed to feel so much better afterward. Sweating it all out can get rid of that funk instantly! Which leads me to my next point…

  • Get your workout on
    • Easier said than done, right? I know. But honestly, I’ve never felt better about myself after a workout. Working out gives you some time to think and reflect and just regather yourself. Also, if you’re angry or just tense, it’s the perfect way to release it all and get a better workout in. Win-win. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to force yourself onto a treadmill but find healthy alternatives to get those endorphins going. Perhaps a hike on the weekend? A jog on the beach? A walk with your dog. Anything, that will get you out for some fresh air.
  • Read a good book

  • Treat Yo’self
    • If you know me, you had to know this one was going to be on here. Treat yo self. Words to live by. Unless the problem or reason you’re in a funk is money, then just skip this one. Lol. But really, is there a cute pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing for quite some time now? Get them, shoot get 2! Go get a mani, a pedi, that hairstyle you’ve been eyeing! Remind yourself how hard working you are and what you deserve and kick that funk to the curb.
  • Take a break and unwind
    • It’s definitely necessary to unplug. Take a step away from all things social media for while. Often times we are too focused on what’s going on in everyone else’s lives that we start believing everything on there is real. Or worse, start comparing our lives and think our lives should be meeting those online expectations. Do not let yourself get into this bad habit, it will eat you alive. If people online, make you feel bad, unfollow them. Don’t put yourself through that torture. Follow and surround yourself with only things/people that uplift your sprit. We don’t have time for toxicity! *clap emoji*
    • Write it all out. I cannot stress this enough. If you’re anything like me and your brain is running 100 mph at all times. Chill and just jot your thoughts down. This works wonders! I am addicted to my planner and I feel like once it’s all in there I really start to break down how I’m going to achieve everything that’s on there and just makes me feel motivated because it makes my goals seem more realistic. A lot of apps will help you with centering yourself and repurposing your goals . Head Space and Five Minute Journal are 2 apps I love and recommend are worth looking into to for this.

So there you have it! These are the ways that I’ve learned to snap out of a funk and remind myself I’m on the right track. Hopefully you all enjoyed these tips and take them into consideration the next time you’re not feeling your best self.
